A general term for statistics relating to fisheries (including aquaculture) and the marine product processing industry. The statistical survey system was established after World War II, with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries' direct control statistical information organization (Statistical Information Office and its branch offices) acting as the survey organization. The main statistics compiled by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and their contents are as follows: (1) Statistics relating to the basic structure of the fishing industry These statistics serve as basic information for the planning, drafting and implementation of fishing administration at the national, prefectural and municipal levels. They have been conducted under the name of the "fisheries census" approximately once every five years since 1949 (only in 1958 was there a special coastal fisheries survey). 漁業(養殖業を含む)および水産加工業に関する統計の総称。統計調査の体系が整備されたのは第2次大戦後で,調査機構として農林水産省直轄の統計情報組織(統計情報事務所および同出張所)がある。農水省の行っている主要統計とその内容は次のとおりである。(1)水産業の基本構造に関する統計 国,都道府県,市町村等における水産行政の企画,立案,実施の基礎資料となる統計である。〈漁業センサス〉の名称で1949年以来ほぼ5年に1回実施されている(1958年のみ沿岸漁業臨時調査)。
