Science and Technology Policy

Japanese: 科学技術政策 - かがくぎじゅつせいさく
Science and Technology Policy
A policy field related to science and technology. As the role of science and technology in promoting economic growth and improving the welfare of the people has been recognized, and as the importance of the government's role in promoting its development in a comprehensive and planned manner has been recognized, science and technology policy has come to form its own independent field as a policy field. Science and technology policy is broadly divided into research and development, commercialization of research results, introduction of technology, technology transfer including dissemination, human resource development and awareness-raising, information activities, international cooperation, and administrative organizations, policies and methods. In addition to dealing with current issues, the challenges of science and technology policy include establishing a long-term perspective and measures aimed at the future, balancing activities of different natures such as the specific goal orientation seen in technological development and the exploration of unknown areas in basic research, and evaluating and dealing with the impacts that arise when science and technology is disseminated to society, especially ensuring contact with society, such as the impact on the environment and public acceptance.
