Collège (English spelling)

Japanese: コレージュ（英語表記）collège

A secondary school on par with the French lycées. Originally a dormitory for seminarians, it later housed general students and then became a school as lectures were held there. In contrast to the national lycées, it was a seven-year municipal secondary school with the same curriculum as the lycées. After that, with the Abie Reforms of 1975, secondary education came to be conducted at two secondary schools, the 4-year collège and the 3-year lycée, which is how it remains today. The curriculum for the collège for the 1st period of secondary education is also called the first period of secondary education.

フランスのリセと並ぶ中等学校。もと神学生の学寮を意味し，その後一般学生も収容し，さらにここで講義が行われるようになり，学校になった。国立のリセに対し，市町村立の7年制の中等学校をさし，その教育課程はリセと同じであった。その後 1975年のアビ改革により中等教育は，前期4年間のコレージュと後期3年間のリセの2つの中等学校で行われるようになり，現在にいたっている。このコレージュでの前期中等教育の課程は，第1期課程などとも呼ばれる。
