Born: June 15, 1765, London [Died] March 10, 1837. London. British Indologist. As a banker, he was involved in Indian business from an early stage. During his stay in India, he learned Sanskrit. After returning to Japan, he studied a wide range of Indian studies, including Vedic studies. His main works include Essay on the Vedas or Sacred Writings of the Hindus (1805).
