Korinyoku - Korinyoku

A Chinese politician and military commander who made a great contribution to suppressing the Taiping army during the Qing Dynasty. His pen name was Jiusheng and his title was Junzhi. He was from Yiyang County, Hunan Province. He was a Jinshi in 1836. He first served as governors in various parts of Guizhou Province. During that time, he demonstrated his skills in suppressing rebellions by secret societies in the region. After the Taiping Rebellion broke out, he led the troops of Guizhou Province to Hunan and repeatedly fought to the death with the Taiping army. During the battle, he became governor of Hubei. He paid attention not only to military affairs but also to civil administration, and although he reduced taxes such as land taxes, he also did not forget to quickly collect likin (a type of domestic tariff) to solidify the foundation of the government's finances. He made the greatest achievements along with Zeng Guofan and Zuo Zongtang, but died during the battle to recapture Anhui from the Taiping Rebellion. After his death, he was given the posthumous name "Wen Zhong." He is the author of "Collection of the Remains of Duke Hu Wenzhong" and other books.

中国、清(しん)代、太平天国軍の鎮圧に功績のあった政治家、武将。字(あざな)は貺生(きょうせい)、号は潤之(じゅんし)。湖南省益陽県の人。1836年の進士。初め貴州省各地の知府を歴任。その間、同地方の秘密結社の反乱を鎮圧するのに腕を振るった。その後、太平天国の乱が起こると、この貴州省の兵を率いて湖南に出兵し、太平天国軍と死闘を繰り返した。戦いの間に湖北巡撫(じゅんぶ)となる。彼は軍事だけでなく民政にも留意し、田賦(でんふ)などは減じたが、その一方で釐金(りきん)（国内関税の一種）をいち早く徴収して財政の基礎を固めることも忘れなかった。曽国藩(そうこくはん)、左宗棠(さそうとう)とともにもっとも大きな功績をあげたが、太平天国から安徽(あんき)を奪還する戦中に没した。死後「文忠」と諡(おくりな)された。『胡文忠公遺集』などの著書がある。
