Corinna - Korinna (English spelling)

Date of birth and death unknown. Ancient Greek female poet. From Tanagra in Boeotia. According to ancient tradition, she lived in the 5th century BC, but there is currently some disagreement and some say she lived in the 3rd century BC. Her early life is completely unknown, and her life and literary activities seem to have been limited to a narrow range. Her poems were written in the unique Boeotian dialect, and many of them deal with the unique myths and legends of the region. Fragments dealing with the singing contest on Mount Helicon and Mount Cithaeron and the story of the daughters of Asopus are relatively well preserved.

生没年不詳。古代ギリシアの女流詩人。ボイオティアのタナグラの人。古代の伝承に従えば紀元前5世紀の人であるが、現在では異論が出て前3世紀とする説もある。生涯はまったく不明で、その生活も文学活動も狭い範囲に限られていたようである。詩は独特のボイオティア方言で書かれ、その内容もこの地方の特殊な神話伝説を扱ったものが多い。ヘリコン山とキタイロン山の歌合戦やアソポスの娘たちの物語を扱った断片が比較的よく残っている。
