When this happens, like in apples, the receptacle will swell together with the ovary after flowering to form a false fruit. The disk is a part of the receptacle that swells to become a base for the stamens or pistils, or a ring-shaped protuberance that surrounds them. In the Sapindaceae family, the disk is located between the corolla and the stamens and surrounds the stamens, while in the Rutaceae family, it is located between the stamens and pistils and surrounds the pistil.
