Receptacle - Hard

Japanese:
Receptacle - Hard

Also called the flower bed. In the flower of angiosperms, this is the part of the axis on which the flower leaves are attached, and continues to the pedicel. It is generally believed that the elongated state of the receptacle, as in the Magnoliaceae family, is primitive. As the flower evolves, the receptacle shortens and eventually becomes concave to encase the ovary. When this happens, like in apples, the receptacle will swell together with the ovary after flowering to form a false fruit.

The disk is a part of the receptacle that swells to become a base for the stamens or pistils, or a ring-shaped protuberance that surrounds them. In the Sapindaceae family, the disk is located between the corolla and the stamens and surrounds the stamens, while in the Rutaceae family, it is located between the stamens and pistils and surrounds the pistil. Many disks secrete nectar.
