This refers to the division of a hive seen in the insect honeybee, and is also written as "swarming." When there are too many individuals in a honeybee hive, the inhibitory substance released by the queen cannot be distributed, a queen cell is formed, and a new queen is born. Around the time of this, the previous queen leaves the hive with about half of the worker bees in the hive. This is called swarming. The bees that leave the hive form a bee ball, a group centered around the queen, on nearby tree branches, but the scout bees that went out to search for a suitable nesting site return to the bee ball and perform a dance to indicate the distance and direction of the location they found, and eventually the movement occurs. The new queen that remains in the hive makes a mating flight with the male, and returns to the hive after mating. Sometimes, a new queen is born at the same time, but in this case, a second swarm occurs with this unmarried queen and the worker bees.
