An old town in Hikawa District, Shimane Prefecture, facing the Sea of Japan. It borders Izumo City to the west and is served by the San-in Main Line. In addition to rice cultivation, grapes and other fruits are cultivated, and the town produces a lot of tulips. The area around Lake Jinzai on the eastern edge is a scenic spot. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Izumo City along with Hirata City, Sada Town, Taki Town, and Taisha Town in Hikawa District. 22.26 km2 . 5,860 people (2003). 島根県簸川(ひかわ)郡，日本海に面する旧町。出雲市の西に接し，山陰本線が通じる。米作のほかブドウなどの果樹栽培が行われ，チューリップを多産。東端の神西(じんざい)湖付近は景勝地である。2005年３月平田市，簸川郡佐田町，多伎町，大社町と出雲市へ編入。22.26km2。5860人（2003）。
