Ale (alcohol) - Ale

...The participants sacrificed livestock to the gods, either by burning part of it on the altar as the Greeks did, or by smearing a statue of the god with blood as the Germanic peoples did, and the rest of the meat was eaten communally (community). In the Mediterranean region, wine was drunk, and in Northern Europe, ale (beer), so the sacrificial feast became a place of wild drinking and dancing (ogee). Many of the communal ritual feasts of each ethnic group were preserved in the Middle Ages under the guise of Christian festivals.
