Calf cramp

A slang term for tonic spasms of the calf muscles. While localized spasms are generally painless, this type is known for being extremely painful. It can occur during exercise such as swimming or mountain climbing, or due to overwork of the calf muscles or exposure to cold. It is also an occupational hazard for dancers.
