A plain in the southwest of Korea (Republic of Korea). Located west of the Noryeong Mountain Range and in the basins of the Geum River, Mankyeong River, and Dongjin River, it is the largest plain in Korea, stretching about 50 kilometers east to west and 80 kilometers north to south. The area downstream of the Geum River in the north is extremely narrow, with most of it being in the basins of the Mankyeong River and Dongjin River. With fertile soil, a mild climate, and complete irrigation facilities, it is a major rice-growing region and Korea's number one grain-producing area. Reclamation projects are being carried out on the shores of the Yellow Sea (known as the West Sea on the Korean peninsula).
