Kotohiki (English spelling) Therapon jarbua

Japanese: コトヒキ(琴引) - コトヒキ（英語表記）Therapon jarbua

A marine fish of the family Zosteridae in the order Perciformes. It is also called Yakataisaki or Yagataisaki. It is widely distributed in the western Pacific Ocean from central Honshu southward and the Indian Ocean. It is called Jinnara in the Izu region, Shamisen at Saikazaki in Wakayama Prefecture, Fuefuki in Shimonoseki, Kufuwagana in Okinawa Prefecture, and Kubu in Naze, Amami Oshima. It reaches a total length of 30 cm. Its body color is light bluish brown with a silvery white ventral side. There are three black-brown bands on the sides of the body that curve ventrally, the third of which extends above the caudal fin. It is a coastal fish that is often found in estuaries and swims in schools.

スズキ目シマイサキ科の海産魚。ヤカタイサキ，ヤガタイサキとも呼ばれる。本州中部以南の西部太平洋，インド洋に広く分布する。伊豆地方でジンナラ，和歌山県雑賀崎でシャミセン，下関でフエフキ，沖縄県でクフワガナー，奄美大島名瀬でクブなどと呼ぶ。全長30cmに達する。体色は淡青褐色で腹側は銀白色である。体側に腹方に曲がる3本の黒褐色帯があり，その第3帯は尾びれの上までのびている。沿岸性の魚で河口域に多く，群泳している。
