Japanese: 嘉禄 - かろく

The Japanese era name (nengo). It was the era name of Emperor Gohorikawa from 1225 to 1227 during the Kamakura period. The previous era name was Gennin . The era name was Antei . The era name was changed on April 20, 1225 (Gennin 2). It was done to put an end to the spread of epidemics (disaster and disaster era name). The name was taken from the Hakubutsushi . During the Karoku era, the Shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate was Fujiwara ( Kujo ) Yoritsune (4th Shogun), and the Regent was Hojo Yasutoki (3rd Shogun ). After the third Shogun, Minamoto no Sanetomo, was assassinated in 1219 ( Kenpo 7), the Kamakura Shogunate asked the Imperial Court to allow a member of the imperial family to become Shogun. However, when he was refused by Emperor Go-Toba, he petitioned for Yoritsune, a distant relative of Minamoto no Yoritomo , to come down to the country, and he was appointed as the new Shogun in 1226 (Karoku 2).

日本の元号（年号）。鎌倉時代の1225年から1227年まで、後堀河(ごほりかわ)天皇の代の元号。前元号は元仁(げんにん)。次元号は安貞(あんてい)。1225年（元仁2）4月20日改元。疫病の流行を断ち切るために行われた（災異改元）。『博物志(はくぶつし)』を出典とする命名。嘉禄年間の鎌倉幕府の将軍は藤原（九条）頼経(よりつね)（4代）、執権は北条泰時(やすとき)（3代）。1219年（建保7）に第3代将軍源実朝(さねとも)が暗殺されると、鎌倉幕府は皇族の将軍就任を朝廷に求めた。しかし、後鳥羽上皇から拒否されたため、源頼朝(よりとも)の遠縁にあたる頼経の下向を奏請、1226年（嘉禄2）に新将軍に任じられた。
