Ancient Family Theory - Kodai Kazokuron

Japanese: 古代家族論 - こだいかぞくろん

The ancient family is not simply an ancient family, but a historical concept related to the examination of the history of the development of private ownership and private management in the infrastructure of the state. It is mainly based on the ideas of L.H. Morgan in Ancient Society and F. Engels in The Origin of the Family, Private Property, and the State, and in Japan, examination of it began in the early 1930s. In that sense, it is inseparable from research methods that seek to understand the ancient state in relation to the laws of historical development, and also from the examination of the specific aspects of the ancient slave mode of production.

古代家族は，たんに古代の家族というのではなく，国家の下部構造における私的占有･私的経営の発達史を検証するのにかかわる歴史学上の概念である。それは，おもにはL.H.モーガン《古代社会》，F.エンゲルス《家族，私有財産および国家の起源》の家族史研究の所論を主流にうけとめられ，日本では1930年代前半から検証がはじまった。その意味では，古代国家を歴史の発展法則との関係で理解しようとした研究方法と不可分であったのであり，また，古代の奴隷制的生産様式の具体相の考察とも不可分のものであった。
