Triptolemos (English spelling)

A hero in Greek mythology. He was the son of King Celeus of Eleusis, and his mother was Metaneira. He is said to be the brother of Demophon, but there are many different theories about his origins. In any case, he is said to have spread wheat cultivation throughout the world by riding a dragon chariot given to him by the grain goddess Demeter. Images of him riding a winged dragon chariot through the air have been popular in vase paintings since ancient times. Triptolemus means "thrice-plowed field," but was originally an ancient deity of Eleusis, who became king of Eleusis after his father and founded the Thesmophoria festival in Attica. In terms of the origins of the Eleusis rituals, he is thought to have been second only to Demeter and her daughter Kore (Persephone).

ギリシア神話の英雄。エレウシス王ケレオスの子で、母はメタネイラ。デモフォンの兄弟とされているが、その出自には異説が多く、いずれにせよ穀物の女神デメテルから与えられた竜車に乗って世界中に麦の栽培を広めたという。彼が有翼の竜車に乗って空中を走る図は、古くから好んで壺絵(つぼえ)などに描かれていた。またトリプトレモスとは「三度耕した畑」の意味であるが、もともとはエレウシスの古い神格で、彼は父のあとエレウシスの王となってアッティカのテスモフォリア祭を創始したという。エレウシスの祭儀の縁起については、デメテルとその娘コレ（ペルセフォネ）に次いで重要な位置にあったと考えられる。
