…Immediately after its publication, it was enthusiastically received as a pioneer by the Romantic poets who were on the rise at the time. By imitating the Greek classics, he succeeded in restoring the simplicity and freshness of ancient poetry to poetry, and he created the Bucoliques and Elégies, including masterpieces such as “L'aveugle” and “La jeune tarentine”, which sing of Homer, and also left behind several unfinished epic poems with a grandiose concept of incorporating the new scientific ideas of the Encyclopedists into ancient poetic forms (L'invention, Hermès, and L'Amérique). He was the greatest poet who expressed the spirit of the 18th century, and at the same time, he was a pioneer who prepared the way for the restoration of poetry in the 19th century. …
