…これ以後,科学博物館の教育的役割が認識され,種々の教育的配慮が加えられたジオラマ・模型,実験装置が工夫されて,豊富な資料とともに展示される近代的科学博物館が,アメリカを中心に,つぎつぎに設立されるようになった。第2次大戦後,アメリカの工業技術を背景に,大規模な実験装置を中心としたシカゴの科学産業博物館や,ワシントンのアメリカの歴史を技術の発展で示す国立歴史技術博物館や,宇宙時代を象徴する航空宇宙博物館などの大規模博物館が建設され,また,サンフランシスコのエクスプロラトリウムExploratoriumのごとき実験を主とした新しい科学博物館を目ざす施設などが相ついで創設されている。なお,アジア地区には,植民地時代の自然史博物館のほか,1945年以前には日本を除いて理工系博物館は皆無であったが,近年,インド,タイ,シンガポール,韓国に科学博物館が設けられ,また中国,フィリピンなどにおいても設立の計画が進められている。…
