Parasitologist. Born in Kyoto Prefecture. Graduated from the Department of Zoology at the Faculty of Science, Tokyo Imperial University in 1907 (Meiji 40). Entered the Institute for Infectious Diseases and studied parasitology under Miyajima Mikinosuke (1872-1944). Became an engineer at the Taiwan Central Research Institute in 1914 (Taisho 3), and after serving as director of the Health Department of the League of Nations, became a professor at Keio University School of Medicine in 1924. He conducted extensive research into parasitology, particularly into roundworms, and his representative work is "Study of Ascaris" (1944). He also conducted research into malaria. At the same time, he worked hard to raise awareness about parasites, and served as chairman of the Parasite Prevention Association. He also had a deep knowledge of evolutionary science, and wrote works on the theory of evolution such as "Introduction to Evolutionary Science" (1933), as well as "Biological Pilgrimage" and "Hideyo Noguchi."
