Ueki [town] - Ueki

Japanese: 植木[町] - うえき

An old town in Kamomoto County in northern Kumamoto Prefecture. Ueki, the town in the center, was formerly a post station on the Buzen Highway, where National Route 3 and Route 208 branch off, and where the Kagoshima Main Line and Kyushu Expressway pass. The surrounding area is a major watermelon producing region, and livestock farming such as pig farming is also thriving. It is part of the commercial district of Kumamoto City, and has many commuters. There is Tabaruzaka Hill. In March 2010, it was incorporated into Jonan Town, Shimomashiki County, and Kumamoto City. ^{65.81 km2} . Population: 30,772 (2005).

熊本県北部，鹿本(かもと)郡の旧町。中心の植木はもと豊前(ぶぜん)街道の宿駅で，国道３号線と208号線が分岐，鹿児島本線，九州自動車道が通じる。周辺はスイカの大産地で，養豚などの畜産も盛ん。熊本市の商圏に属し，通勤者も多い。田原坂(たばるざか)がある。2010年３月下益城郡城南町と熊本市へ編入。65.81km²。３万772人（2005）。
