Abbreviation for European Currency Unit. The calculation unit of the European Monetary System (EMS), which was established in 1979 in preparation for European monetary integration. It is used as the legal tender of the European Central Bank. It is a weighted average of the currencies of the 15 member states of the EU (European Union) and is mainly used for government bonds, corporate bonds, traveler's checks, etc. In 1995, the name of the currency unit was decided to be the "Euro".
