Aechmea (English spelling)

Japanese: エクメア(英語表記)Aechmea; aechmea
Aechmea (English spelling)
A general term for the genus Aechmea in the family Bromeliaceae. There are 150-180 species distributed in tropical America. In its native habitat, it is an epiphyte that grows on trees or rocks. Many species have beautiful leaves and inflorescences, and it is the most commonly cultivated ornamental plant among the Bromeliaceae. The linear leaves grow from the roots and curl back, overlapping one another, and from the center extend flower stalks that produce spikes or panicles. In most cases, the inflorescences are decorated with colorful inflorescences, and the leaves are often mottled. The most common species is Aechmea fasciata, whose beautiful pale pink inflorescences can be enjoyed for a long time. It is generally grown in a pot. It is grown outdoors from spring to summer, and kept indoors at 5°C or higher in winter. Water it thoroughly during the growing season in summer, and store water in the tubular parts at the base of the leaves. Keep it slightly dry in winter.
