A storyteller. The first was from the end of the Edo period. The third (1873-1925) was known as a master of domestic dramas. The fifth (1877-1961) was born under the name of Ueno Shokichi. He studied under the third and called himself Takai Mashu, but later took the name Roshu, and excelled as a domestic drama reader, reciting stories such as "Shiobara Tasuke" and "Nezumi Kozo."
