After the eggs laid in the sea hatch, they become bipinnaria larvae, live a floating life for a while, then sink to the bottom and become young starfish. However, some large eggs do not become bipinnaria larvae, and some attach the eggs they lay to the mother's body and incubate them, while others develop directly inside the mother's body. These types of development are often seen in species that live in harsh, cold seas.
