Ryoanji Temple

Japanese: 竜安寺 - リョウアンジ

This is a temple of the Myoshinji school of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism located in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City. Its mountain name is Daiunzan. Hosokawa Katsumoto built the temple on the site of Tokudaiji, which was near Fujiwara no Saneyoshi's villa, and in 1450 he invited Giten Gensho and appointed his teacher Nippō Soshun as the founder. It was burned down during the Onin War, but was rebuilt by Tokuyoshi Zenketsu. The current abbot's quarters are Tower Touching This is a relocated building from Saigen-in Temple. The Hojo Garden is said to have been created by Soami, and is famous for its dry landscape garden made only of stones and sand, called the Tiger's Cub Crossing Garden. In 1994, it was registered as a World Heritage Site (cultural heritage) as one of the "Cultural Assets of Ancient Kyoto." Ryuanji.

京都市右京区にある臨済宗妙心寺派の寺。山号は、大雲山。藤原実能の別荘近くにあった徳大寺の地に細川勝元が寺を建て、宝徳2年（1450）義天玄承を招き、その師日峰宗舜を開山としたのが始まり。応仁の乱で焼失、徳芳禅傑が再興。現在の方丈は塔頭たっちゅう西源院の建物を移築したもの。方丈庭園は相阿弥作と伝えられ、石と砂だけで構成された枯れ山水で虎の子渡しの庭とよばれて有名。平成6年（1994）「古都京都の文化財」の一つとして世界遺産（文化遺産）に登録された。りゅうあんじ。
