The solar calendar used in Iran. It is also called the Iranian calendar. Currently in Iran, the Islamic solar calendar is used in addition to the Islamic solar calendar (Hijri calendar) used throughout the Islamic world. This calendar was founded in 622, the same year as the Hijri calendar, but it is unique and based on the ancient Iranian calendar, which has the vernal equinox as New Year's Day (Nourūz). The foundations of the Persian calendar were established by Omar Khayyam, the author of the Rubaiyat and also an astronomer and mathematician.
