American Ballet Theater

A ballet company based in New York. Founded in the fall of 1939 by Lucia Chase and Richard Pleasant, the group was made up of the remnants of the Mordkin Ballet, founded in 1937. Initially called simply "Ballet Theatre," the company held its inaugural four-week run at Radio City Center in New York in January 1940. It performed 21 repertoire pieces with 11 choreographers and 85 dancers, including Fokine's Les Sylphides, Mikhail M. Mordkin's Voices of Spring, and Anton Dolin's Quintet.

ニューヨークを中心に活躍するバレエ団。1937年創立のモルドキン･バレエ団の残党を中心として，チェーズLucia ChaseとプレザントRichard Pleasantが39年秋に創立。当初は単に〈バレエ･シアター〉と称し，40年1月ニューヨークのラジオ･シティ･センターで4週間にわたる旗揚げ公演を開いた。フォーキンの《レ･シルフィード》，モルドキンMikhail M.Mordkinの《春の声》，ドーリンAnton Dolinの《クインテット》などで，11人の振付師，85人の舞踊手で21のレパートリーを上演。
