Publication was banned by Bismarck's Anti-Socialist Law (1878), so it was renamed Berliner Volksblatt and published in 1884. When the Anti-Socialist Law was abolished in 1890, the party changed its name to Social Democrats and the title was restored to Vorwärts. In 1933, when the Social Democrats were banned again with the rise of the Nazi regime, it continued to be published in Prague and then Paris as an exile newspaper, Neuer Vorwärts, until 1940. *Some of the terminology used in reference to "Berliner Volksblatt" is listed below.
