Abbreviation: AA. The largest American airline, headquartered in Texas. Founded in 1934. With bases in Chicago, Dallas, Miami, and Puerto Rico, it operates 161 routes to Central America, South America, and Europe. It is the second largest airline in the world in passenger traffic and passenger-kilometers. In 2001, it acquired Trans World Airlines. It joined the Oneworld airline alliance, which includes nine airlines, including British Airways. After the 9/11 attacks in 2001, the airline cut 20,000 employees and cut flight schedules by 20%, and continued to face tough management. It once recovered through cost-cutting and other rationalization measures, but in November 2011, it filed for bankruptcy protection and went bankrupt. Its operations will continue during bankruptcy protection. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
