Japanese: 羽茂[町] - はもち

An old town in Sado County, located in the southern part of Sado Island, Niigata Prefecture. Its center is the village of Hamohongo, at the mouth of the Hamo River. It is home to Watatsu Shrine, known as the Ichinomiya of Sado Province. In addition to the famous Okesa persimmon, the area is also home to mandarin oranges and loquats due to the warm climate. Oishi is famous for its Sado miso. In March 2004, it merged with Ryotsu City, Sado County's Aikawa Town, Sawada Town, Kanai Town, Niiho Village, Hatano Town, Mano Town, Ogi Town, and Akadomari Village to form Sado City. ^{52.21 km2} . 4,402 people (2003).

新潟県佐渡島南部にある佐渡郡の旧町。中心は羽茂川の渓口集落羽茂本郷。佐渡国一宮とよばれる度津(わたつ)神社がある。名産の八珍柿（おけさ柿）のほか，温暖なためミカン，ビワも産する。大石は佐渡みそで有名。2004年３月両津市，佐渡郡相川町，佐和田町，金井町，新穂村，畑野町，真野町，小木町，赤泊村と合併し，佐渡市となる。52.21km²。4402人（2003）。
