Kozuki clan

Japanese: 上月氏 - こうづきうじ

A local feudal lord in Harima Province. A member of the Akamatsu clan. The Kozuki Mitsukichi Estate List (Kozuki Documents) from 1481 (Bunmei 13) lists Kozuki in Sayo County as the family's land, a quarter of the Tokawa Gogo Province in Kasai County, a Shigetomi portion of the same province, and Shimomikusa Jito portion of Kato County as the main land, and also includes the Ogawa family's land as a newly granted portion. The Ogawa family originated from the Harima Kokuga Zaisho and became vassals of the Shugo Akamatsu family in the middle of the Nanboku-cho period, and during the Muromachi period they held important positions in the Shugo ruling organization, serving as Kokuga Mokudai (deputy governor), higher Shugo-dai, and Natsushiyo. The Kozuki family gained land stewardship in Eastern Harima from a local lord whose family's land was Kozuki in Western Harima, and further developed as a feudal lord by being granted the former Ogawa family fief after the Akamatsu clan was restored.

播磨国の在地領主。赤松氏一族。1481年(文明13)の上月満吉所領目録(上月文書)には，佐用郡上月が名字の地，加西郡東河合成国名四分一，同重富分，加東郡下三草地頭分が本領地とあり，また小河氏の所領が新給分として含まれている。小河氏は播磨国衙在庁の出身で南北朝時代中ごろに守護赤松氏の被官となり，室町時代には国衙目代(代官)，上位守護代，納所（なつしよ）を兼ねて守護支配機構上重要な地位にあった。上月氏は西播磨の上月を名字の地とする土豪から東播磨に地頭職を得，さらに赤松氏再興後にかつての小河氏知行分を給与されて発展した領主と言える。
