Year of death: May 19, 1930
Year of birth: March 12, 1892 (Meiji 25)
A poet and translator from the Taisho period. Born in Michiwara-cho, Yonago-cho, Aimi-gun, Tottori Prefecture. The eldest son of Satoru and Iwa. His real name was Seihei. He went on to Meido Elementary School and then Kakuban Higher Elementary School, and around this time he began publishing poetry in circulating magazines. In 1904, his father's business failed, and the family traveled to Korea, where he suffered hardships. In 1908, he moved to Tokyo, where he studied literature and also learned German. In 1914, he married Nishizaki Kayo, a member of the Seito group. In 1915, he published "Autumn of the Soul" and in 1916, "Sentimental Spring," establishing his position as a poet. He also translated many works, including the complete works of Heine. However, he lived in poverty, and was influenced by the nihilistic ideas of Sakai Toshihiko and Osugi Sakae. His style changed from the pure, Christian style of his early period to anarchist style in his later years. It is said that perhaps her naturally gentle nature was to blame, or perhaps it was due to the distress of a love triangle, but she committed suicide by jumping from the steamship Sumire Maru, which was bound from Kobe to Beppu.
