A Christian theologian from the late 3rd century to the early 4th century. Dates of birth and death unknown. Born to a pagan family in a small city called Sicca in the Numidia region of North Africa, he was educated in rhetoric and became a teacher of rhetoric. However, at the end of the 3rd century, he caught the attention of Emperor Diocletian and was invited to teach in the imperial capital of Nicomedia. It is believed that he converted to Christianity in this place, around 300. When the great persecution of Christians broke out, he worked on theological writings despite his difficult life.
