Go Seinosuke - Go Seinosuke
Born: January 8, 1865 (Keio 1) in Gifu
Died January 19, 1942. Tokyo businessman. Born as the second son of Baron Go Junzo. He attended Doshisha English School and Tokyo University, but studied in Germany in 1884. After returning to Japan in 1891, he worked for the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce for a time, but in 1895 he became president of Nippon Transport, which was in financial difficulty, and then became president of Iriyama Coal Mining (1900), successfully rebuilding both companies. He also played an active role as a facilitator in the business world, helping to liquidate Oji Paper in 1902 and Teikoku Bank of Commerce in 1908. In 1911 he became chairman of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and worked hard to reform the exchange until his resignation in 1924. During the financial panic of 1927, he helped to liquidate the Jugo Bank, Kawasaki Shipyard, Tokyo Electric Light, and others, and later played a leading role in mediating the merger of Nippon Yusen and Toyo Kisen, and promoting the merger of the public and private steelworks. During this time, he also advocated for the strengthening of business organizations and participated in the establishment of various organizations, serving as executive director of the Japan Industrial Club in 1912, chairman of the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1930, and chairman of the Japan Economic Federation in 1957. He was also elected to the House of Peers in 1918 and continued to be elected for the rest of his life, and served as a member of various government committees. Even after retiring from the front lines of business in 1936, he continued to have great influence in political and business circles, serving as chairman of the committee to establish national policy companies such as North China Development and Dai Nippon Airlines, a Cabinet Councilor and advisor to the Ministry of Finance in 1937, and an advisor to the Imperial Rule Assistance Association and the Greater Japan Industrial Patriotic Association in 1940.
