Nassau Dietz

…Frederick Hendrik's grandson, William III (reigned 1672-1702), made a name for himself by defeating the French invasion of the Netherlands (1672), but in 1688 he was welcomed to England with his wife Mary Stuart, and became King William III as co-ruler (the Glorious Revolution), and also served as governor of the Dutch provinces. When William died childless, he was succeeded by Johan Willem Friso (1687-1711) of the Nassau-Dietz family, and his son William IV became governor of the seven provinces of the Republic in 1747 (1751). When the revolutionary French army invaded the Netherlands in 1795, the Republic collapsed, and William V (reigned 1751-95) fled to England. …
