Also called COM for short. A system in which microfilm is created directly from computer output, rather than optically photographing with a camera. There are systems in which the image is displayed on a high-resolution cathode ray tube (CRT) and exposed onto film, and systems in which a laser beam is used to directly expose the microfilm. When a laser beam is used, the computer output data is recorded onto the film by scanning the beam and modulating it with the dot pattern to be recorded. 略してCOM(コム)ともいう。マイクロフィルムの作成を光学的にカメラ撮影するのでなく,コンピューターの出力で直接行うシステム。高解像の陰極線管(CRT)上に表示してフィルムに露光するシステムと,マイクロフィルム上に直接レーザービームで露光するシステムがある。レーザービームを使用する場合は,ビームをスキャンしながら記録しようとするドットパターンで変調することによりフィルム上にコンピューター出力データを記録する。
