〘noun〙 (pivot) 1. A pivot. The support end of a pivot or rotating shaft is made conical to reduce friction. 2. Rotating on the heel or toes in ball games such as basketball, handball, and badminton, and in dancing. 3. A leather ring on a boat that prevents the oar from coming off the clutch. 4. In golf, twisting the hips and upper body around the spine as an axis during the backswing. 5. In clay pigeon shooting, the shooting position in which the center of gravity is on the front foot.
