In particular, kirigi Sanada, made by cutting kirigi into thin strips and weaving them like Sanada strings, is exported overseas as a product such as summer hats, and was one of the factors that promoted the kirigi industry. Kirigi woven fabrics, which use cotton thread for the warp and kirigi for the weft, are used for sliding door upholstery and zabuton (cushion cushions), and kirigi paper with Japanese paper pasted on is popular as a material for folding boxes. スギやヒノキ、マツなどの木材を、紙のように薄く削ったもの。菓子やみそ、魚などの食品を包んだり、折り箱の底に敷いたりして用いる。古くは経文を書写したことからこの名があり、かんなかけ(鉋掛)、へぎ(折、片木、剥)、また幅の広いものはうすいた(薄板)ともいう。元来は折り箱や折盆(へぎぼん)、あるいは折敷(おしき)などの用法が一般的であったが、1852年(嘉永5)に宮嶋勘左衛門(みやじまかんざえもん)によって、枇木(ひぎ)とよばれる包みものに便利な薄経木が開発されてからは、前者を厚経木として区別している。用材としては、色が白く、繊維が強くて年輪のそろった樹木が適しているが、なかでもドロノキやタカノツメ(ともに箸(はし)やマッチの軸木にも用いる)が称美されている。現在では産出量の面から、エゾマツ、アカマツ、トドマツ、カラマツなどが主流を占める。なお、経木を材料に用いたものとしては、木曽(きそ)の檜笠(ひのきがさ)、高知の土佐笠などの工芸品のほか、兵庫のマッチなどがよく知られる。ことに経木真田(さなだ)といって、経木を細く切って真田紐(ひも)のように編んだものは、夏帽子などの製品となって海外にも輸出され、経木産業の振興の一因ともなった。また縦糸に綿糸、横糸に経木を用いた経木織物は、襖張(ふすまはり)地や座ぶとん地に用いられ、和紙などを貼(は)り付けた経木紙は、折り箱の材料として普及している。 [宮垣克己] 『田中信清著『経木』(『ものと人間の文化史37』1980・法政大学出版局)』 出典 小学館 日本大百科全書(ニッポニカ)日本大百科全書(ニッポニカ)について 情報 | 凡例 |
