After World War II, rapid urbanization has progressed in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, against the backdrop of economic internationalization and technological innovations in agriculture and other fields, and huge cities are being born one after another in these regions. A characteristic of these cities is that the population of the capital city alone has rapidly increased, often overwhelming the second-largest city, resulting in a phenomenon known as "primacy."
