1722‐57 A Dzungar prince and a fighter in the Mongolian anti-Qing independence struggle. After Dzungar king Dawachi ascended to the throne (1753), he fell out with Dzungar and was defeated. He then went under false pretenses to the Qing and sought aid from Emperor Qianlong. As a result, the Qing army cooperated with Amursana to destroy the Dzungar kingdom in 1755 (the 20th year of the Qianlong era). However, Amursana was not allowed to inherit the kingdom's rule, so he rebelled against the Qing. He was defeated in 1757 and fled to Russia, where he died of illness. As a result, the Qing dynasty's rule over Dzungar was established. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
