[Born] Daoguang 2 (1822) [Died] 1864, 3rd year of Tongzhi. Leader of the late Taiping Heavenly Kingdom in Jiangxi, Nanchang, China. Born in Huaxian, Guangdong Province. Younger brother of Hong Xiuquan. Did not participate in the Jintian Uprising, studied Western studies in Hong Kong and Shanghai, entered Tianjing (Nanjing) in the 9th year of Xianfeng (1859), was appointed as King of Gan, and was in charge of policy. Opposed superstition, he wrote the New Book of Capitalism, which aimed to introduce Western capitalist systems, but he could not gain the support of other leaders or the people, and was unable to realize his goal. He also adopted a compromising stance toward the great powers, and after the fall of Tianjing, he fled with his young leader, but was arrested in Jiangxi Province and later executed.
