Tests to check thyroid function in cases of thyroid diseases such as Graves' disease. Thyroid function tests can be broadly divided into tests of (1) hormone production and secretion, (2) regulatory mechanisms, (3) morphology, (4) hormone action state, and (5) the presence or absence of immune abnormalities. (5) cannot be considered a functional test, but is an important test related to thyroid diseases. (1) Tests of hormone production and secretion These measure the concentration of thyroid hormone in the blood. Most thyroid hormones in the blood are bound to proteins, and so both the bound and free levels are usually measured.

バセドー病など甲状腺の病気などに際し，甲状腺の機能を調べる検査。甲状腺の機能検査を大別すると，(1)ホルモンの生成，分泌，(2)調節機序，(3)形態，(4)ホルモンの作用状態，(5)免疫の異常の有無等についての検査に分けられる。(5)は機能検査とはいえないが，甲状腺疾患と関連しだいじな検査である。(1)ホルモン生成，分泌の検査　血中の甲状腺ホルモン濃度を測定する。血中の甲状腺ホルモンはほとんどがタンパク質と結合しており，通常は結合したものと遊離しているものを合わせて測定している。
