Gozanze Myoo

One of the Five Great Wisdom Kings, he is located in the east. A free translation of the Sanskrit word Trailokyavijaya. He subdues the three poisons of greed, anger, and ignorance, and is considered the second most important after Fudo. He has Mahajiri-ten (the Hindu god Shiva) and his wife Uma under his feet. In the Mahavairocana Sutra, he is also called Shosanze, and is usually depicted with three faces and eight arms, but there are many variants with two or four arms. Aside from the Five Great Wisdom Kings, the seated statue at Kongoji Temple (Kawachinagano City, Osaka Prefecture) is well known.

五大明王の一尊で、東方に配置される。サンスクリット語のトライロークヤビジャヤTrailokyavijayaの意訳。貪(とん)・瞋(じん)・痴(ち)の三毒を降伏(ごうぶく)し、不動に次いで重視される。足下に大自在天（ヒンドゥー教のシバ神）とその妃ウマー神を踏む。『大日(だいにち)経』では勝三世(しょうさんぜ)とも呼称し、普通は三面八臂(はっぴ)であるが、二臂、四臂の異形が多い。五大明王を除く作例では、金剛寺（大阪府河内長野(かわちながの)市）の坐像(ざぞう)が知られる。
