This hot spring is located at the southern foot of Mt. Inukura in Shizukuishi Town, Iwate County, west of Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture. It is at the trailhead of Mt. Iwate, Hachimantai, and the water is drawn from the source hot spring about 2km above the mountainside. Simple sulfur spring, 82°C. Formerly a hot spring resort, it was established as the Iwate Mountain Foothills National Vacation Village in 1965, and a national ski resort was developed. It has developed into a resort with a campground and tennis courts, and is visited by many people throughout the year. It has a great view of the Shizukuishi Basin and Koiwai Farm, and the genbudo cave over the nearby Katsukoda River has been designated a natural monument as the "Kakkonda no Oiwaya." 岩手県盛岡市の西方,岩手郡雫石(しずくいし)町の犬倉山南麓にある温泉。八幡平,岩手山の登山口にあたり,2kmほど上方の山腹にある元湯から引湯している。単純硫黄泉,82℃。かつては湯治場であったが,1965年岩手山麓国民休暇村として発足するとともに国定スキー場が開発され,キャンプ場,テニスコートもある保養地として発展し,四季にわたって訪れる人が多い。雫石盆地,小岩井農場などの展望がよく近くの葛根田(かつこんだ)川の渓流にかかる玄武洞は〈葛根田の大岩屋〉として天然記念物に指定されている。
