〘noun〙 A sensation caused by the stimulus of light. In particular, it is the perception of differences in luminosity from white to black, and together with color vision, it constitutes vision. It is also seen in protozoa, but visual images are only possible in animals with lens-shaped eyes. In higher animals, it is sensed by the action of rods in the retina .
