Huang Yi (English name)

Japanese: 黄易 - こうえき（英語表記）Huáng Yì

1744‐1802
A literati painter from the mid-Qing Dynasty in China. His given name was Yi, and his literary name was Da Yi, and he took the name Komatsu after his father Huang Shugu's pen name Matsushi. He was born in Renhe, Zhejiang Province, and served as a canal tsar in Jining, Shandong. Despite the busyness of his official duties, he never abandoned elegance for a single day, devoting himself to poetry and painting. He studied Ni Zan and Huang Gongwang in painting, and opened up new horizons with his plain, simple style. He was close to Xi Gang, and the two shared many common styles. He was knowledgeable about the study of metal and stone, and worked to preserve the Shandong Wu family ancestral hall. [Furuhara Hironobu]

中国，清朝中期の文人画家。名は易，字は大易，父黄樹穀の号松石にちなんで小松と号した。浙江省仁和の出身，官は山東済寧の運河同知にいたった。公務の繁忙にもかかわらず一日も風雅をすてず，詩画に励んだという。画は倪瓚（げいさん），黄公望を学んで淡白で簡略な作風に新境地を開いた。奚岡（けいこう）と親しく画風にも共通する点が多い。金石の学にくわしく，山東武氏祠堂の保存に努めた。【古原宏伸】
