Tonga climber

Japanese: ハブカズラ(英語表記)Tonga climber
Tonga climber
A climbing perennial vine of the Araceae family. It is cultivated in greenhouses for decorative purposes. The stems are creeping and climb onto other plants using attached roots, and also produce aerial roots. The opposite leaves are simple and circular-cordate when young, but those on mature parts become oval, about 50 cm long, and deeply pinnately lobed. From the leaf axils grow flower stalks about 10 cm long and cylindrical spadixes surrounded by green-white bracts. The spadix is also green and cylindrical, about 10 cm long, and densely packed with bisexual flowers with six tepals.
