Born in Mita, Tokyo on May 4, 1888, as the eldest son of Nobukichi Koizumi (1849-1894, banker and second president of Keio Gijuku), who was directly taught by Yukichi Fukuzawa. He studied at Keio Gijuku from the general school level, and at the university level under Tokuzo Fukuda, he was strongly influenced academically and grew up to be a leader in criticizing Marxism. He graduated from the political science department at the university level in 1910 (Meiji 43), and remained at his alma mater.
