The terms orchestra and symphony orchestra are used to loosely distinguish between the two, but a symphony orchestra that aims to perform large-scale, orthodox symphonies is made up of around 100 musicians and is roughly divided into the following instrument groups and numbers: (1) Strings: 1st violin (18), 2nd violin (16), viola (12), cello (10), double bass (8), harp (2), (2) Woodwinds: Flute (3), piccolo (1), oboe (3), English horn (1), clarinet (3), bass clarinet (1), bassoon (3), topper bassoon (1), (3) Brass: Horn (6), trumpet (4), trombone (4), tuba (1), (4) Percussion: Timpani, bass drum, snare drum, cymbal, triangle, tambourine, castanet, tam-tam, xylophone, glockenspiel, marimba, etc. …
