Japan's top pharmaceutical company. Founded in 1781, Takeda Chobei Shoten Co., Ltd. was established in 1925, and the company absorbed Takeda Pharmaceutical (established in 1918). It is the nation's leading manufacturer of pharmaceuticals, mainly vitamin supplements known as Alinamin and neurological drugs, and has expanded into chemical seasonings and other foods, industrial chemicals, and pesticides, but has recently been returning to pharmaceuticals. The company is also actively expanding overseas. Head office in Osaka, factories in Osaka, Hikari, and elsewhere. Capital in 2011 was 63.5 billion yen, and sales for the fiscal year ending March 2011 were 1,419.3 billion yen. Sales breakdown (%) is as follows: 89% are prescription pharmaceuticals, 4% are healthcare, and 7% are other.
